Hey hey, i started to localize my 'local repo manager' [1][3] and i just speak 1.5 languages, so i need some help to translate it. It would be great, if some of you guys would do that! What is done? * en as default gettext language (needs to be reviewed) * de What have to be done? * as many languages as possible Interrested people should read the README [2]. [arch-general] Using <Shift> + F1 on XFCE

Good morning. I have an Arch Linux x86_64 installation on my laptop, and I use a couple of programs that requires me to use <Shift> + F1 to start a few functions, but every time I do that I'm dropped to the Virtual Console, and then I have to use <Ctrl> + <Alt> + F7 to get back to XFCE. It is not possible to change the shortcuts of the softwares I use, so I need to disable this feature in XFCE, but so far I haven't found anything on Google/Arch Wiki. Any ideas of how to do that? My system is: Arch x86_64 XFCE4 (started with startx, I don't use a login manager) Cheers, Vitor

All, Why does the new dovecot package move the dovecot.conf to dovecot.conf.pacsave? The same 2.0 configuration works with 2.1, why leave the user without any dovecot.conf at all? [arch-general] moving away from gnome

I would like to move away from Gnome, which I don't need at all since I only need to launch: - emacs - conkeror - thunderbird - gnome-terminal and I don't even use the menu but Alt-f2 for that. The main problem though is that on this laptop (a dell latitude E6420) if I'm not using gnome I can't make it suspend properly. The strange thing is that if I am in a gnome-session closing the lid or calling suspend from the gnome menu everything works. But if I fire up awesome only then closing the lid doesn't work anymore. So the question is, what is gnome magically firing up that other window managers don't? I would also like to try xmonad finally, but I've never been able to configure it yet. I have an ~/.xmonad/xmonad.hs file (the default one copied) that compiles perfectly, but if I try a startx the screen just stays blank, without logging any error in the Xorg.0.log. Any idea of what it could be?

[arch-general] tab completion is mucking up prompt spacing - started a week or so ago - any ideas?

All, I have always used the following prompt because it provides and immediate cut-n-paste for ssh or rsync directory information: User: PS1="\[\e[0;37m\]\A\[\e[1;34m\] \h:\w> \[\e[0m\]" Root: PS1="\[\e[1;34m\][\[\e[1;31m\]\A \[\e[1;34m\]\h\[\e[0;31m\]:\w\[\e[1;34m\]] # \[\e[0m\]" Lately on some tab completions using ~/, I've noticed that the tab-completion automatically fills in /home/david for ~/ and on other operations it does not. It seems in some cases that tab completion tries to automatically account for the extra spacing needed by inserting /$HOME in place of ~/ but it doesn't do it correctly resulting in my cursor being moved a line ABOVE the current line? What package is most likely responsible for this? bash-completion? Also, is anyone else seeing this? When I used <tab> for the second instance of the filename and touched the left-arrow key, the cursor jumped up one line each time I would type a character in 'old'. Look at the actual text above (it looked like this on the right-side of the screen): d.tar.gz l.tar.gz o.tar.gz Then after the successful 'mv' of the file, the cursor went back to normal, but it was on a line that already had text on it. Notice the: 'lrinity-tqtinterfac... line' That was the next line after the move where I had type 'l' (alias='ls -al') This is obviously prompt/completion related, but any guesses which file is responsible for the weirdness? -- David C. I have released ruby 1.9.3_p125 into [extra]. This is a version bump (p0 -> p125) and all tests passed for me. Along with the update, I will be introducing the following new conventions as part of my ruby cleanup project. /usr/lib/ruby/vendor_ruby is now the correct location where non-gem ruby libraries installed with pacman should go. If your package installs anything to /usr/lib/ruby/site_ruby, you have to update to the new location. Site_ruby is only there for files installed specifically by the user without a package manager. A new file will be created at "/etc/gemrc" where I add --user-install as the default option for gem. This will install all gems by default to "$HOME/.gem/ruby". You will have to add the new bindir to your PATH if you decide to install gems that provide binaries. export PATH="$PATH:$(ruby -rubygems -e 'puts Gem.user_dir')/bin" As a result of the above change, all ruby gem packages will have to add a --no-user-install flag when running gem in the PKGBUILD. If you run sudo gem install foo, it will install to /root/.gem/ruby To install to the system-wide gems location (not recommended), you will have to either remove --user-install from /etc/gemrc or you will have to pass the --no-user-install flag when using gem as root. [arch-general] keyboard problem

I'm trying to remove Gnome from another machine, but here starting Xorg with startx gives the following error: (EE) Microsoft Natural® Ergonomic Keyboard 4000: failed to initialize for relative axes. While GDM works perfectly fine. How can it make a difference? And where should be the driver for that keyboard that I can't find anywhere in aur? Hi List, on a freshly updated arch with a freshly pulled AUR I can't install taskjuggler (2.4). Taskjuggler3 can be installed, but I want to use Emacs orgmode's taskjuggler export, thats geared towards taskjuggler 2.4.
