I've been using this very nice command after removing a lot of stuff, and it's great to find orphans. But I think there are some issues.. For example I just installed python2-tinkerer from aur, which needs python2-sphinx. I had installed python-sphinx and they interfere with each other. So I removed python-sphinx and reinstalled again. All the dependencies are satisfied and tinkerer is installed correctly. But now look at what I get: # pacman -Qdt python-jinja 2.6-2 python2-sphinx 1.1.2-2 which seems wrong to me. Is it maybe that packages from aur don't have the same weight when checking for reverse dependencies?

[arch-general] How to set grub2 resolution to 1366x768

Hi, I want to have a 1366x768 resolution for grub2. Unfortunately, `vbeinfo` shows that my computer doesn't support that resolution (up to 960x640/1024x768). So, can I load some additional modules for grub2 so that it can support 1366x786 resolution in my computer? I tried to do the following steps in grub2 command line: 1) insmod 915resolution 2) 915resolution 5c 1366 786 After step2, grub2 command line became completely black and unresponsive. I had to press the power button to force halt my machine. System information: Archlinux x86_64 grub2-common 1.99 grub2-bios 1.99 Thinkpad X220 (with Intel Sandy Bridge CPU graphic card) Regards

It's a bit a shame that there isn't any default good indexing system for Linux. Now there is also a inotify implementation and tools to set up watchers on the filesystem, so why are we still mainly stuck with locate and the expensive updatedb? Are there other problems with the inotify approach maybe or just lack of developer interest?

Hello! I seem to have an issue with my character encoding in a new arch install. Here [0] [1] are a couple screenshots. I have locales set correctly in /etc/locale.gen: en_US.UTF-8 UTF-8 en_US ISO-8859-1 and according to 'locale', all my variables seem to be in order: LANG=en_US.UTF-8 LC_CTYPE="en_US.UTF-8" LC_NUMERIC="en_US.UTF-8" LC_TIME="en_US.UTF-8" LC_COLLATE="en_US.UTF-8" LC_MONETARY="en_US.UTF-8" LC_MESSAGES="en_US.UTF-8" LC_PAPER="en_US.UTF-8" LC_NAME="en_US.UTF-8" LC_ADDRESS="en_US.UTF-8" LC_TELEPHONE="en_US.UTF-8" LC_MEASUREMENT="en_US.UTF-8" LC_IDENTIFICATION="en_US.UTF-8" LC_ALL= It happens in terminals (sakura, urxvt, xterm) and also in firefox for some characters. Hi all, I've regularly used a VPN to access my school network. I use Juniper ncsvc to connect. It is worked into a script such that I can just call it, and then C-c to stop the VPN. Previously, the default route would be restored after I killed the VPN connection, so I could close the vpn connection and resume my internet use without thought. Now, I need to restart networkmanager (or that's the quickest/dumbest way I could mindlessly think of) to restore the connection (see output below). What has changed this behavior, and what methods can I take to getting the old behavior back? [arch-general] mplayer steals system sound

Hi list, my system-sound (alsa) was working, until I installed mplayer. Now mplayer is working - but system-sound is gone. No way to regulate volume in alsamixer, it seems mplayer has occupied the system. How can I use mplayer _and_ have sound for youtube etc again? Thanks for any tips. cheers -- Thorsten

Hi guys, After switching from Linux Mint to Archlinux, my wireless card refused to show up in lspci. It DOES worked fine under Linux Mint, but .... Below is my output of 'lspci -vnn |grep Broadcom' : 10:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetLink BCM5787M Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express (rev 02) My laptop is hp 6515b, with a touch panel for the toggle of wifi on/off etc. After a search in google I found the problem may be that the power of wifi has been shut down, and solution is to boot into windows and turn wifi on, because the touch panel will not work under Linux (as far as I know), And the I found a software named rfkill, hoping it will work. 'rfkill list' out put as follows : 0: hp-wifi: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: yes Hard blocked: yes After 'rfkill unblock all', I get: 0: hp-wifi: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: yes And still no wireless card detected. So my question is, is there any way to power the wifi on without booting into windows? (in fact, windows has diappeared from my laptop for 3 years, and there is no partition on my harddisk supporting windows install).
