Hi, I recently dealt a lot with my laptops network configuration because I needed wlan for uni. Sadly the free driver for my chip still doesn't work, however, with the proprietary broadcom it works. While troubleshooting the wlan issues I ditched wicd (because it's buggy, even the dev doesn't use it anymore) and went a level lower. As stated before, wlan works at uni and at home as it should, using just wpa_supplicant and dhcpcd, however, I also need wired network at home, and whatever I try it just doesn't work. I suspect the problem might have existed with wicd already, as it worked with static IP, but not using dhcp. Now I try to use /etc/rc.d/network but without success so far. The probably relevant config parts are: /etc/rc.conf eth0="dhcp" INTERFACES=(lo eth0) DAEMONS=(syslog-ng sensors network @alsa @ntpd @crond @cups @laptop-mode) /etc/dhcpcd.conf # A sample configuration for dhcpcd. # See dhcpcd.conf(5) for details. # Inform the DHCP server of our hostname for DDNS. hostname # To share the DHCP lease across OSX and Windows a ClientID is needed. # Enabling this may get a different lease than the kernel DHCP client. # Some upstream DHCP servers may also require a ClientID, such as FRITZ!Box. #clientid # A list of options to request from the DHCP server. option domain_name_servers, domain_name, domain_search, host_name option classless_static_routes # Most distributions have NTP support. option ntp_servers # Respect the network MTU. option interface_mtu # A ServerID is required by RFC2131. require dhcp_server_identifier # A hook script is provided to lookup the hostname if not set by the DHCP # server, but it should not be run by default. nohook lookup-hostname noipv4ll I'm not sure what else is relevant. I especially have no idea where the error output comes from and what's wrong. I also assume dhcpcd is supposed to be running automatically by the network daemon/script, but that doesn't seem to happen in my case. Philipp

[arch-general] [OT]Disk showing too many bad sectors - is it going to fail ?

I have a Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 family harddisk of 160gb capacity which is more than 3 years old. recently I installed gsmartcontrol and after running it, it showed number of current pending sector count and offline uncorrectable sectors as -- 4294967295.Fearing the disk going bad, i backed up data and started monitoring it. This is the latest gsmartcontrol shows - http://img820.imageshack.us/img820/5707/201010161300051280x1024.png After two weeks, the no. of bad sectors is the same and the disk shows no sign of failure (at the least there is no problem to read or write files from or to the disk).hence I am confused .is the disk going bad ? if it is fine why can't it remap all those bad sectors ?

The hard disk makes some funny noises (clicking, dangling, ...) and you wonder why some files are missing, though the disk is still "useable". Linux should throw a bunch of errors at boot time, but Windows (98) continues with its work until something crashes. Partha Chowdhury schrieb am So 17. [arch-general] Udisks, uuid and very stange mount

Have a nice day guys, If anyone use udisks and mount filesystems with it - please tell me, if there is any way t:o specify mounting point? Because if fs have no label(eg - ext2) udisks mounts it to /media/<uuid>. Bad idea. Really bad. Any suggestions, how to make /media/sdb1(example? --

[arch-general] Building packages, and their dependencies

I have a tree of packages, organised similarly to ABS, i.e. directory names match package name, and in each directory is a PKGBUILD (and what else is needed). Something like this: my-packages/ foo/ PKGBUILD bar/ PKGBUILD bar.install baz/ PKGBUILD ... Is there some tool that would allow me to move into one of these directories, build the package including any dependencies?
