[aur-general] How to name llvm trunk packages tailored to work with mesa trunk ?

Hi, llvm-git (and it's predecessor llvm-svn) is intended to provide a full implementation of the llvm/clang compiler suite. It's a huge package that takes a lot of time and processor capacity to build. While mesa needs llvm, it only needs a subset. examples : llvm-git builds with ocaml support, but mesa doesn't use ocaml at all. llvm-git builds for lots of processor architectures not supported by archlinux. RISC-V is one of them. I've been looking into this and tried 2 (bad) naming schemes already. The current scheme goes like this : lone_wolf-llvm-git , lone_wolf-compiler-rt-git, lone_wolf-clang-git and lone_wolf-lib32-llvm-git llvm-mesa-git seems to vague, while llvm-trunk-for-mesa-trunk-git feels clumsy and long. Please help me to find a good name for these packages. Lone_Wolf

Hello everyone, few days ago I decided to write few makepkg scripts to build some bioinformatics tools that I'm using in a project that I'm currently working on. Can someone please check if they are ok and maybe give me some feedback on things that I can improve? [aur-general] mesa-git / lib32-mesa-git need new maintainer

Hi, Due to irreconcilable differences wrt mesa trunk packaging, I am stepping down as the maintainer of those packages. I hope someone will volunteer to take over these packages and there will be a smooth transition. The packages will keep depending on llvm trunk until I transfer maintainership. If no new maintainer comes forward, I will orphan these packages no later than june 3 2019. Since TUs have made very clear there's no room in AUR for mesa trunk packages that match my views, I will take my versions elsewhere . I have not yet decided whether I will keep maintaining my other aur packages. Lone_Wolf

[aur-general] Kernel version requirement

Hi, In the oomd package <https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/oomd/>, I put a linux>=4.20 dependency requirement since it requires the new resource pressure metrics <https://facebookmicrosites.github.io/psi/> introduced in linux 4.20. But as another user pointed out, some of the alternatives kernel packages declare provides=("linux=${pkgver}"), but several of the most popular do not (linux-lts, linux-dzen, linux-hardened). What we would be correct way to handle this ? Should I just drop the version requirement (since having a kernel>=4.20 does not imply you are running this one anyway) ? Or should these packages be improved ?

[aur-general] Are AUR VCS packages that depend on AUR VCS packages from other projects a good idea and who should decide on that ?

Hi, recently a mesa developer contacted me and asked me to change mesa-git to depend on released llvm/clang instead of llvm/clang trunk. He did convince me there's a demand for such a package. Currently people wanting to build mesa-git against released versions need to edit the pkgbuild and make a few changes (not documented atm). I have been building mesa trunk against llvm trunk since mesa started using llvm and tailored the package to my personal workflow and style. Adjusting the mesa-git PKGBUILD to use repo llvm/clang would force me to either change my workflow or maintain a package I don't use in that form. I'd probably stop maintaining mesa-git. I do feel there's an underlying issue here that concerns us all as stated in the title: Are AUR VCS packages that depend on AUR VCS packages from other projects a good idea and who should decide on that? Hello, I am the author of a new implementation of POSIX bc. ( https://github.com/gavinhoward/bc) It has all GNU extensions, so it can be used to build the Linux kernel. In fact, it can be a drop-in replacement for the GNU bc. While I believe that my bc is robust enough to be used as the default bc on Arch, I am under no illusion that that will happen right away, if at all. Instead, I have made a PKGBUILD (attached) for my bc as an alternative. It installs alongside the GNU bc without problem, since it is renamed as "bc-gh". This also includes a dc under "dc-gh". Would there be interest in adding my bc as an Arch package? Gavin Howard
