[arch-general] Best way to adjust cron.daily or updatedb execution time? (root's crontab?)

Guys, What is the best way to set the cron.daily items to run at 3 am. Currently they run at 3 pm which is a pain. I have checked the cron.daily entries and the other /etc/cron.x directories, but I can't find a time setting anywhere. I have checked man crond and crontab, but I didn't find a reference to setting the execution time globally for cron.daily stuff. I have added an entry to root's crontab: 0 3 * * * /root/cron/cron-daily Is this where this needs to go? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

[arch-general] Unable to shutdown recently (not always)

Hello, recently I'm experiencing shutdown problems. I installed everything (except /boot) on LVM, using LXDM as the display manager and sawfish as the window manager. Usually I cannot shutdown, the computer gets stuck --- wallpaper is still there, panel is gone, so does other windows; the HDD LED may flash sometimes; neither NUM LOCK nor CAPS LOCK is responding. So I need to press the power button to force a shutdown, and, on next boot, filesystems will be recovering journal, looks like it got stuck before the filesystems unmounted. But this doesn't always happen to me, usually if the computer is used for a long time it will; but if I want to test what is the cause, i.e. startup -> do sth. -> halt, I cannot yet figure out what is the problem. [arch-general] Current PKGBUILD that pulls directly from git?

Guys, I've read https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/VCS_PKGBUILD_Guidelines regarding git and it will get me going, but does anyone know of a current PKGBUILD using git that would also be a good additional reference? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

[arch-general] howto build shadow 4.1.5 with share libraries enabled?

All, I am having trouble building the new shadow (4.1.5) from ABS so that libshadow.so.0 is created and installed. I have tried modifying lib/Makefile.am like was done in 4.1.4: #Ugh, force this to build shared libraries, for god's sake sed -i "s/noinst_LTLIBRARIES/lib_LTLIBRARIES/g" lib/Makefile.am But that produces no pkg/lib at all in the build directory. [arch-general] Drop windowmaker-crm-git from [extra], use windowmaker package

Hi, now that Window Maker development resumed and the new source for the official Window Maker package is the git repository of crm, there is no need anymore to have the crm-git package in the [extra] repository beside the official stable package. I will move it to AUR soon and will maintain it at the AUR. To all the users of the windowmaker-crm-git package, please install the windowmaker package from the [extra] repository, which is the latest stable source from windowmaker.org and even newer than the crm-git package. All features which are in the crm-git package are merged to the official windowmaker package because of the same source. -Daniel

Allan, All, Rebuilding shadow from ABS, I got the following warning for public key verification failure: ==> Verifying source file signatures with gpg... shadow-4.1.5.tar.bz2 ... FAILED (unknown public key 5A0A399AEA7CF5AD) ==> WARNING: Warnings have occurred while verifying the signatures. Please make sure you really trust them. I don't know if this is important or just a side-effect of the new pacman package, but I thought I would pass it along. Does this type of warning need a bug report? It's been out for a day now... this would be a good time to decide whether ArchLinux should be bold and move to a haskell-platform-free state, or trudge on with HP and the ache it causes. If we're moving to 7.4.1 there's a lot of work with getting ArchHaskell in shape for it, so the longer notice the better :) If we're to trudge on with HP then we really ought to move to 2011.4.0.0, which also means a new version of GHC and a lot of work on ArchHaskell, so the longer notice the better :) Please, please, please, can we move on this soon?
