[arch-general] What broke ctrl+c ??

Guys, I have a strange problem. ctrl+c is completely broken on my system. It won't cancel Jack Schit. It is the strangest thing I've seen. I apologize if there is some archain Arch notice on this I apologize, I've missed it. This is easy to test. Just to 'ping anywhere' and then try and kill it with ctrl+c. I have to open another terminal and either 'killall ping' or kill the pid to get the thing to stop. Same thing happens if I mistype a cli and need to cancel the execution (like if I mistype a ' instead of a " and the script continues on a new line) What's up with this? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. [arch-general] nfs problem

Hello, I tried to set up a nfs server and a nfs client in my network. I followed the instructions from the arch linux wiki. The server's ip address is 192.168.0.100 and the client's one is 192.168.0.101. I inserted the option --no-notify in /etc/conf.d/nfs-common.conf on the server. Here are the entries of the configuration files. --- On the server --- /etc/export: /home/user/share 192.168.0.101(rw,sync,no_root_squash,no_subtree_check) /etc/hosts.allow: nfsd: 192.168.0.101/255.255.255.255 rpcbind: 192.168.0.101/255.255.255.255 mountd: 192.168.0.101/255.255.255.255 --- On the client --- /etc/hosts.allow: rpcbind: 192.168.0.100/255.255.255.255 If I try to mount the nfs share with the command "mount 192.168.0.100:/home/user/share /home/user/share", I will get the error message "mount.nfs: access denied by server while mounting". The directories /home/user/share on both machines are owned by the user. Maybe someone has an idea? Thanks! Bye Lars

Hello again, the graphics card on my old pc is a Nvidia GeForce 3 Ti 200. Before the release of the version 1.8 of X.org I used the proprietary driver. Because this is not possible anymore, I tried the nouveau driver and everything I can get is a blank screen. The vesa driver works correctly with the same configuration files. Thanks for your time! Guys, On the kernel/radeon, Andreas suggested: "try a .35rc kernel if it's fixed meanwhile. if not ask on the upstream radeon list and then probably file the issue to the Xorg tracker for radeon." Hi, I bought a Asus 1201N and installed Arch on it. Sound (a nVidia MCP79) works but I think sound is too low. I've set everything in alsamixer to 100% and even with a headphone it is still low. Although I can hear it well, I think this netbook can amplificate sound a lot more. Also, the built-in microphone doesn't work. alsamixer doesn't show the controls of it, just of the pararel mic. Hey all, My name is Netanel Shine, and a few days ago i began the process of building an israeli community of archlinux. I used a git clone to set up the main site. (like some other great projects file that archlinux git have to offer like the wiki and the forums) Everything went smoothly and just works great, except for one problem - the package rss feeds. The site address is: http://archlinux.org.il - under heavy development. The problem: As you all can see, the left rss box with the latest updates dont work and the list is empty. - because the system comes with an integrated "packages" part (you can see it here: http://archlinux.org.il/packages - not gonna use it), so the rss list updates from here (i guess) After discussions with some great people (in the irc) we concluded that the rss box pull`s the data from the 'models.Package' object - that connected to archlinux mainsite DB (Package.objects=PackageManager()), so if i dont have any access for the database - thats not gonna work. All sorts of ideas were came up like bulding a script that will do the job or, a an iframe that will copy the box from the mainsite (but the problem it will not be in hebrew) and an idea to replace the table that has for update in pkg_updates. (with logic that pulls from the feed) - but thats not easy because the logic is a wrapped up in django MVC. [arch-general] Bad News .35rc kernel boots to KMS switch then hardlocks box

Guys, Still plugging away at why the 2.6.34 kernels either lock on boot or if boot is successful, the graphics system whitescreens when compiz is started. To investigate (http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/20200) Andreas suggested I try the .35rc kernel. So once Thomas pointed me in the right direction to get the kernel from AUR, I built it (it built fine, all default values were used except the Ath9k modules were activated (I have an Atheros wireless card). Bad news, the kernel boots to what I guess is the KMS switch (that part where your screen flips from normal text mode to the higher resolution graphics mode) and then: (1) a 3-4 pixel horizontal white line flashes across the 'center' of the screen for approximately 1-2 seconds and; then (2) the screen goes completely black (dead unpowered black) and the box hardlocks. So the 2.6.35rc test was a bust. Do you think there is any use in recompiling and not enabling the Ath9k module will make any difference. Let me know. I guess the next step is to get with the radeon upstream folks and get them involved because the kernel/atiRS690M problem has gone from: good (2.6.32 kernel); to bad (2.6.33 kernel - compiz works but slow); to worse (2.6.34 only boots less than 20% of the time and compiz whitescreens every time); to completely unsuable (2.6.35rc kernel - won't boot at all) Let me know if you think recompiling w/o ath9k will make any difference and if any of you have contacts on the radeon upstream list, pass them along so I at least have an idea of who has any Arch knowledge on that list. Any other thoughts let me know, because it is apparent something has to be fixed before 2.6.35 moves forward. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. Hi, While updating to a new kernel pacman replaces the older kernel with the new one. Is there someway to keep the older kernel in /boot and have new entries for new kernel in menu.lst while keeping old entries intact?

Hi List, Below a patch wich fixes two bugs in the gdisk package. They have been submitted uptream but not yet been accepted. The first bug fixed is that partition attributes are read/stored backwards. The second bug fixed is that when changing an undefined attribute no longer junk is displayed. I'm not sure if this is the right place, but i sent to this list mainly because there is no official gpt fdisk list afai could find. Now this patch has a place on the net. Cheers!
