[arch-general] Overly large fonts in X11 after rebooting

For some reason when I turned my laptop on today and started X, all my fonts were larger than normal. The only one that seems to have the stayed has been my console font, but even that feels a bit "off" (however, I'm not too worried about that, it could be that I'm sitting slightly closer than normal; the rest are most certainly measurably larger, though). The only difference between now and previously is that I don't have my external monitor plugged in, but my resolution didn't change, and I've used this computer without the external before without problems. It's just simply bigger; I turned down the GTK font, which seems to have worked for some apps (like firefox and pidgin), but the fonts are unbearably large for some websites: http://logik.li/images/screenshots/arrakis/large_fonts_in_some_places.png A few months ago I had a similar problem with certain sites having large fonts, and never really managed to solve it, one day after reinstalling it just went away and never came back until now. This was probably related. [arch-general] /dev/tty* borked ...

Hi folks, My system is uptodate with the current testing repo. During bootup today I noticed the error message: /etc/rc.sysinit: line 364: /dev/tty[0-9]*: no such file or directory To my surprise, only /dev/tty was present, but none of tty0..9. Instead there was a device literally named '/dev/tty[0-9]*' !! I deleted the latter, and attempted to create the missing ones with mknod. But I think I took the wrong major number, and now my system has started to behave a bit crazy... Any idea what I should do to restore it to sanity? Thanks, F

[arch-general] New PKGBUILD for libtorrent-rasterbar

Hey all, libtorrent-rasterbar is pretty out of date (2 months and 2 package versions), so here's a PKGBUILD for the new version. I bumped the pkgver (obviously), added python to the dependency list since we *ARE* building the python bindings... and I set the package to use the system libgeoip/geoip rather than the one bundled in the libtorrent tarball (which is a new configure option in libtorrent-rasterbar 0.14.6). It also checks out fine with namcap (no warnings or errors) and it compiled perfectly on the i686 box I tested it on. Part of the reason i'd like to see this updated is that Deluge 1.2.0_rc1 is out and myself and probably a few other Arch users would like to use it, but it requires libtorrent-rasterbar >=0.14.5 . [arch-general] No sound after last upgrade

Hi, After yesterday's update I can't get any sound off my box anymore :-( I tried mpd, xine, mplayer and youtube in firefox, and all of them are completely silent. Looked in alsamixer and the master volume is in the appropriate level, also the respective modules seem to be loaded and ok. PS. to avoid discussion about webapps useless. There are (at least) - phpmyadmin - phpldapadmin - phppgadmin which have no need in multiple instances on different virtual hosts and useful even on localhost.

Listmates, Which setting in Arch prevents forwarding apps when you ssh -X in an Arch box, su and then try to start a kde app, etc.? X forwarding works just fine as a user, but when trying it su'ed to root, I get the following error: [23:29 archangel:/etc] # kwrite X11 connection rejected because of wrong authentication. kwrite: cannot connect to X server localhost:10.0 kdm config? [arch-general] Master mode and Intel 4965AGN

Hi, list, I am trying to use my wireless card to share a wired connection. I have an Intel 4965AGN card, and I am fairly confident that this should be possible; however, I've been unsuccessful after a few hours of trying and Googling. The issue seems to be that the card won't enter master mode. Trying to set it up manually with `iwconfig wlan0 mode master` results in "SET failed on device wlan0 ; Invalid argument." (As an interesting side note, I can easily put it into ad-hoc, managed, or even monitor mode this way.) Using hostapd (with the nl80211 driver) fails with the message "Failed to set interface wlan0 to master mode." According to `iw phy0 info`, the supported interface modes are IBSS, managed, and monitor. I booted up an Ubuntu 9.04 live CD and compared the output of `iw phy phy0 info` there, and indeed, AP and AP(VLAN) (I believe) were also present in the list. I've tried on Arch with both the current 2.6.30 kernel and the 2.6.31 kernel in [testing], and neither has worked. The version of iwlwifi-4965-ucode I have installed is 228.61.2.24-1. Anyone have any idea what might be wrong and how to fix it? I'll happily provide any further information that might be relevant. -Adam Lloyd
