Greetings Installing gnome in a new machine I found that packages in the gnome group, the install scripts call for some missing bins. (I did not create a bug track because there were several packages) These bin are: /usr/bin/gconftool-2 /usr/sbin/gconfpkg gtk-update-cache Also, shouldn't xorg be dependency of gnome? raca

Hi, i modified the auto-detection function for file-system modules to auto-detect a ext4 partition. The advantage of using blkid instead of klibc-package/bin/fstype is that blkid detects ext4 filesystems. I tried to rebuild klibc with kernel 2.6.28, but this failed. tried to download the core (and later, ftp) iso torrents this morning and got empty files. second time i clicked the links, it took me to empty ftp directories. ??? -kludge

[arch-general] Xorg locks/crashes

I purchased a new larger hard drive to install ArchLinux. Not wanting to erase the existing install from earlier this year. I booted the 2008-03-1 boot disk and installed the basic install, rebooted. Then ran pacman -Syy pacman -Su to install updates. I then proceeded to install alsa which when fine. Then I did a pacman -S libgl xorg mesa xf86-video-ati. then Xorg -configure followed by X -config /root/xorg.conf.new. X started and gave me the X cursor. The keyboard and mouse are not responsive and I can not kill X with the <Backspace> trick. ALT+F1...F8 does nothing. I had to Press the "Microsoft Windows button" to gain control of the system. I know this is not a hardware problem as the previous Arch install runs fine with KDEMOD. Has any one experienced this? Any one with some pointers/Help?

[arch-general] Does anyone receive two copies of same message on the arch-announce list?

Hello. Every time there is an announcement on the the main I'll get an email (as I am on the arch-announce list). However, about 5-8 hours I'll get another copy of the email. For example I got the [arch-announce] Pacman update and mirrorlist email Sunday at 23:00 and then today at 05:02. This has been happening for a few months now. I've checked the mail headers and each email is being delivered to the same address. Does anyone else have this problem or am I just lucky? ~pyther

[arch-general] Access arch-general ML archive before November 2007

Does anyone know of a place were tha arch-general (at the time simply arch) ML archive is available before November 2007? I wanted to access it but realised it isnt available. I guess the name change had much to do with it, but i dont believe the previous years are lost. Greg
