Hello, why are there two packages gimp and gimp-devel with exactly the same version number? Would one not be enough? Regards Stefan

[arch-general] pacman -- force removal despite dependencies (libgl)

Hello All, I have both xf86-video-vesa and nvidia-96xx installed, but I have issues with the proprietary drivers, so I wanted to try out vesa with libgl. I can remove nvidia-96xx, but trying to remove nvidia-96xx-utils flags lots of conflicts. I was going to use pacman -Rc but that would mean uninstalling (and later reinstalling) lots of packages... and I'm thinking there must be a quicker and more elegant way about this. I was wondering if there's a way to force removal of nvidia-96xx-utils and ignore the dependencies since libgl will satisfy them anyway. (I know in general it would not be a good idea for pacman to allow this...) I tried pacman -R --force but that doesn't work (--force is not a removal option). I thought about forcing the installing of libgl with -f instead, but I thought it would be neater to remove nvidia-96xx-utils first (otherwise I will have problems later when it comes to delete either package?) Any thoughts on this would be appreciated! Steve

[arch-general] System upgrade problems

Hi all, I have a problem upgrading my x86_64 system. It started a couple of days ago when my pacman -Syu reported that libxml2 could not be fetched. I decided to wait a while and try again. This morning I tryed again and when asked to replace gail with extra/gtk2 I accepted. Then I got an error message : error: failed to prepare transaction (package filename is not valid) I search google and the forums but didn't find anything. I tought gail was the problem so I removed it and the packages that required it on my system (libgnocanvas, libbonoboui, libgnomeui, etherape, gedit, gnome-desktop, gnome-panel and xfce4-xfapplet-plugin) Then I tried to install gtk2 and got the same error. Pacman -Syu doesn't either : # pacman -Syu :: Synchronizing package databases... core is up to date extra is up to date community is up to date :: Starting full system upgrade... resolving dependencies... looking for inter-conflicts... error: failed to prepare transaction (package filename is not valid) What should I do ?

Hi. I'm using the core, extra, community and unstable repos on my ArchLinux i686 setup and just now did a "pacman -Syu". Since then, I cannot start Gnome (and other programs): --($ /Arch/Cache)-- avahi-browse avahi-browse: error while loading shared libraries: libdbus-1.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory --($ /Arch/Cache)-- gnome-terminal gnome-terminal: error while loading shared libraries: libdbus-1.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory And indeed, there's no "libdbus-1.so.3" file on my system anymore. I updated the following packages: Pakete (8): bzr-1.8-1 [4.28 MB] dbus-1.2.3-3 [0.03 MB] fuse-2.7.4-1 [0.14 MB] libsigc++2.0-2.2.3-1 [4.43 MB] man-pages-3.11-1 [4.17 MB] openoffice-base-3.0.0-2 [140.99 MB] sdl-1.2.13-3 [0.60 MB] tzdata-2008h-1 [0.53 MB] I suppose the update of "dbus-1.2.3-3" caused the problem. Was it correct that libdbus-1.so.3 got deleted? [arch-general] Missing dependency for git?

Hi, When trying to commit to a subversion repository needing authentication using git, I got the following error: Password for 'username': Can't locate Term/ReadKey.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /usr/share/perl5/site_perl/5.10.0 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.10.0 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl /usr/share/perl5/vendor_perl /usr/lib/perl5/core_perl /usr/share/perl5/core_perl /usr/lib/perl5/current /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/current .) at /usr/lib/git-core/git-svn line 3071. The problem was solved by installing perl-term-readkey from extra, but this package is not listed as an optional dependency for "git svn" or did I miss something? Cheers, -- Sébastien Mazy

Hello, Is there a dependency problem in the avahi package? Avahi got installed as a dependency of VLC in my system and now I am geting this error message when running `pkg-config --list-all`: Package qt-mt was not found in the pkg-config search path. Perhaps you should add the directory containing `qt-mt.pc' to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable Package 'qt-mt', required by 'avahi-qt3', not found I'm not running KDE and I don't need Qt. -- Henri Häkkinen

Hello, i´ m getting this message when i try to upgrade my system (pacman -Syu): I have the system in spanish, so i write a translation of it: :: Starting full system upgrade... resolving dependencies... checking for conflicts... error: fail to prepare transaction (couldn´ t satisfy dependencies) :: ipw3945: needs kernel26<2.6.27 I think ipw3945 is something about my network card, but whatever it is, it´s not listed in the repositories (pacman -Sl | grep ipw --> ipw2100-fw and ipw2200-fw). And my kernel is 2.6.26-ARCH, so i think is a kernel26, <2.6.27, right? Anyone with the same problem?? Can i uninstall the package without a problem?? Thanks.

I am trying to install ArchLinux 2007.08-2 on an Eee PC 701 4G using LVM, to span the SSD and a 2G SD card. I followed the instructions at: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Lvm However, after I finish the installation process and reboot, the system claims it cannot find all physical volumes belonging to the volume group and hangs. Before the installation, I used cfdisk to partition the system like this: /boot: /dev/sda1, 20M (it does not run out of space) /: /dev/sda2 + /dev/sdb1, the rest of the SSD and all the SD card. No swap partition. Please help. Thanks in advance. Carlos Filho
