With all programs above I can scan - right. I can also make an PDF of the scan. With gscan2pdf I can scan many pages at once (fledbed scanner or ADF) and convert all pages directly to PDF. In addition, OCR is performed. And a pdf is generated with the text from OCR as hocr layer. The special feature is that a searchable PDF can be created at once. As far as I know it is not possible with simple-scan nor with scanlite nor with gambas3-gb-scanner. The special thing is that I can correct then OCR Text directly before I save the file. And a few other things that simplify the work. It is not just another scan program. It is the only program I know what allows archiving in this way. best regards Stephan

[arch-general] RAID10 + dmcrypt/LUKS + ext4: expanding?

Hi everyone, I want to setup a couple of drives using RAID10 with mdadm. On top of /dev/md0, I want to setup one large dmcrypt/LUKS encrypted ext4 volume. As Arch wiki reads, this seems to be possible. But what about expanding that volume later on? RAID#Format_the_RAID_Filesystem recommends calculating the stripe_width value for ext4 based on the number of data disks[0]. When adding a new disk, the number of data disks would increase by one, and expanding both the dmcrypt/LUKS and the ext4 layer should be possible - but what about the stripe width_value? Does it need to be updated? Should it be updated? Is it possible to update the stripe_width value afterwards? Encryption is a must for me, and having the space accessible in one big chunk instead of individual disks would allow more efficient usage and is therefore important for me. [arch-general] Problem updating Fenrir from AUR.

Hi all. Yesterday, I notesed that Fenrir got a miner update in the AUER and when trying to update, I receive a message force settings could not be reconnized or something to the efeect. Any ideas on this one? I only made a change so that keyboard keys speak. I use yaourt to keep all my AUR packages updated. If anyone has any way to get around this please let me know. [arch-general] Ansible integration for nosh service management

Hello, Integration for nosh service management has been added to the "system" modules of Ansible's development branch[1]. The nosh module can set running and enabled state for user or system-wide services[2], in a similar fashion to other service management modules. Testing feedback and suggestions are welcome. Archlinux users may find the nosh toolset packaged in the Archnosh repository[3]. Debian, FreeBSD and OpenBSD users should look to the packages provided by the author of nosh[4]. [arch-general] mouse freezes when switching between X sessions

If I have two X sessions running on different accounts and I switch between them (ctrl-alt-f1 ctrl-alt-f2) a few times. I usually get a frozen mouse in one of the two X sessions. I then must shutdown that X session and run it again (startx) to get my mouse working again in that account. Any ideas how to diagnose the issue, much appreciated. Thanks

[arch-general] Server Management Tools

Hello, Is there a way to automatically administer multiple arch Linux servers? It's annoying to provide 20 servers daily with the same commands. Are there possibilities to manage the daily tasks centrally and to set them off automatically? I know there are tools like puppets but they're too cluttered. Thank you for help. Silvio

With remote execution, you want to use tested commands which only error if there really is something wrong. It's the cattle vs pets approach (check Google, little time to type right now). Yaourt is a "pet" problem. A better approach would be to have a custom repro, where you place the pkg's that were compiled (and tested!) on a workstation/dev server. When the actions become more complex, write a script and use pssh (or other execution tool) to execute that script. The script should be able to handle the small exceptions one can expect; ).
