I have a feeling this should be documented somewhere, but I can't seem to find anything about it. When looking at the PKGBUILD for the wireshark split package [1], I see that both wireshark-cli and wireshark-gtk use "conflicts=(wireshark)" but wireshark-qt does not. Should it? The use of "replaces=(wireshark)" is also inconsistent. [arch-general] wireless tools installation without internet access

Readers, An old portable computer has been installed with archlinux via a CD and was used successfully with ethernet cable internet connection. Now, cable connection is no longer available and it became necessary that various wireless software was not installed. Firmware (ipw2100 for intel wireless pro) was copied from usb memory to a /usr/local/ directory. After trying the command 'make', an error was reported that some wireless software (ieee802 I think?). Are there a set of wireless functionality tools that can be downloaded to a usb flash memory device, then installed onto this old computer?

I have successfully built an openstack image for Arch linux using cloud-init and would like to contribute a wiki pages for 1. cloud-init package. 2. With the disclosure of the new bash bug (CVE-2014-6271, CVE-2014-7169), it seems timely to bring this up. Dan added dash to core/base around seven years ago [1], intending the eventually link /bin/sh to dash instead of bash. [1] https://mailman.archlinux.org/pipermail/arch-dev-public/2007-November/00305… We didn't make the switch, supposedly due to the bashism in our scripts which had a #!/bin/sh shebang line? Seven years passed. Is there anything preventing us from making the switch from bash to dash as /bin/sh now? We can then have dash provide sh instead.

[arch-general] To those that are testing Gnome 3.14

Hi list, I have a favor to ask to those that are currently testing Gnome 3.14. In gnome 3.12 I am having problems with user switching, which is quite important for me. In particular, I had this annoying bug [1] since I installed Gnome in this computer. When Xorg 1.16 came out, it broke completely the switch user functionality for me (it caused my system to hang, forcing me to send a SIGTERM with Alt+SysRq+e). For what it's worth, I created a /etc/X11/Xwrapper.config, but that did not solve the issue. At the time I didn't want to investigate the issue since I needed the system to Just Work(tm), and I simply downgraded Xorg. I'm still running with the old Xorg, but I know that I can't go on like this forever. If anyone running Gnome 3.14 happened to test the switch user functionality, I would be interested to know: - if you are observing any problem switching user with Xorg 1.16, - if you are observing Bug #730360; to test, see [1] Thanks in advance! [arch-general] multiarch support like debian, pro and cons?

I wrote my idea first on the irc, but i think here is a better place. The idea is to give up multiarch repo and make pacman and archlinux capable for real multiarch support That means u could install a 32bit package from the normal repos core, extra, community usw and not from multilib repo in 64bit arch. (example: pacman -S firefox:i386) And that means package maintainer don´t have to maintain two 32bit packages, plus all 32bit package where available ob 64bit. What are u guys thinking, about that ideas. What where the pro and cons, that i don´t see. Greetings, Ranomier
