[arch-general] Trackpoint + LXDE

Hi, folks, does anyone know how the trackpoint (the little "joystick" between G, H and B on the laptop keyboard) ? In GNOME there was a a little panel on the upper right corner - but running LXDE ? I thought I could find a suitable option in ~/.config/openbox/lxde-rc.conf but I failed. Kind regards, Nelson.

[arch-general] systemd-journald crashes alot.

After upgraded to systemd-189-4, I have seen many many lines of 'systemd-journal: segfault at xxx ip ....' in my dmesg. I don't what's going wrong, could it be the forward secure sealing?

[arch-general] Postgresql with Systemd

I'm having some trouble getting postgresql working with systemd. The unit originally would fail to start, until I realised that the script it uses to start assume that the variables in /etc/conf.d/postgresql will be defined, and in my setup they were commented out. Once I'd uncommented them, the unit starts OK, and I can connect using pgsql. However, there is no domain socket created at /tmp/.s.PGSQL.5432, which is clearly not right. It means that phpPgAdmin is broken in its default configuration. I'd be surprised if noone else had encountered this, although I can't find any obvious chatter online. Has someone determined the best way to fix? Paul

[arch-general] packages creating users and groups without explicit UID / GID?

Recently I've noticed a couple of packages (git and util-linux) that are creating system users and groups ("git" and "uuidd") without explicitly choosing a UID or GID. These are then assigned IDs near the top of the SYS_UID_MAX / SYS_GID_MAX range. Previously, such post_install scripts were hard-coding these numbers based on https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/DeveloperWiki:UID_/_GID_Database . Is this an "official" change of direction, such that I should expect new packages will all behave this way from here out? It matters to me because this new way assigns the IDs in a way that will vary depending on what order I install packages, and that means I have to be more careful with how I reconcile the passwd / shadow / group / gshadow files between machines which would otherwise have identical lists, and especially, I need to really watch out when reinstalling a machine and then restoring /etc from backups. It's not really a "problem" per se, but I'd very much like to know what to expect here.

It is not very important, except when I'm out of the office. I have defined some mount points like this: 172.31.217.10:/vol/vol0 /mnt/up nfs noauto,x-systemd.automount,defaults 0 0 When pacman reaches this filesystems, that obviously can't be accessed from outside the office, it hangs forever. Hi, I have been getting the following error whenever I try to run journalctl: Assertion 'size > 0' failed at src/journal/mmap-cache.c:615, function mmap_cache_get(). Aborting. zsh: abort journalctl Initially I thought it had something to do with the new sealing key functionality of systemd, so I ran journalctl --setup-keys which ran without a problem. However this error persists even after generating the sealing keys, so now I'm not so sure if they're related. I'm running systemd 189-3 (with systemd-sysvcompat 189-3) from the testing repo with permanent logging enabled (I have a /var/log/journal directory created). Does anybody have an idea what could be causing the problem? I apologize if this is some standard issue that may have been covered on the wiki, in which case I would greatly appreciate if someone were to point me in the right direction. [arch-general] How to align partitions?

Hi, I'd like to know how to create aligned partitions on a 160GB disk which uses a 512B sector size. (Partition table: msdos) I've got the theory [1, 2], but I can't make it work. I'd like to have three partitions: 1. ext3 ~ 100mb /boot 2. linux-swap ~ 1GB swap 3. ext3 (for the rest of the system) How to adjust the sizes? I'm planning to encrypt swap and the third partition with dm-crypt (not LUKS). Separate /boot is needed to mount and decrypt them after booting. All, pacman -Syu this morning and groupadd failed while installing git with the following message: ( 28/115) upgrading git [###########################] 100% groupadd: Invalid configuration: SYS_GID_MIN (101), GID_MIN (100), SYS_GID_MAX (99) useradd: group 'git' does not exist error: command failed to execute correctly It appears to see a min of 100 and a max of 99. Hello, Last update (10 minutes ago) asked me if y want switch from libsystemd to core/systemd. I agreed, and on next reboot, networkmanager was not started automaticly from rc.conf. it work well if y start it by hand (/etc/rc.d/networkmanager start). can you please help me to get it started at boot again ? -- Mathieu R.
