[arch-general] Are the packages provided by mesa-dri1 still relevant ?

These packages depend on a kernel feature which has not been enabled in the default config since 4.19.arch1-1 (CONFIG_DRM_LEGACY) and the support for DRI1 was removed from mesa in 21.0.0. Am I missing something ? Regards,

When running mkinitcpio lately, I get: -> Running build hook: [fsck] Decompress: 1/35 files. Current: ...el/cdrom.ko.zst : 0 B... ==> Generating module dependencies I think the Decomress message is new. It didn't appear before 30-dec-2021, or so. It is aligned with the start of the line, which is not the way most of the mkinitcpio output is indented. It is probably the output of line 876 of /usr/lib/initcpio/functions: (( ${#zst_comp[*]} )) && zstd -d --rm -q "${zst_comp[@]}" Note the -q, --quiet, could be the source of confusion, since it does not override the Decompress line. Perhaps this is a zstd issue, or that the line should have had a -q specified twice. Is it a bug? Who should address it? -- u34

[arch-general] ntfs3 kenel module: permissions not consistent with dmask=0027 from /etc/fstab

Hello, With the ntfs3 linux module, some, but not all, directories of the ntfs partition do not have permissions that are consistent with dmask 027. dmask=0027 is from /etc/fstab. Based on a small set, the files permissions are consistent with the fmask setting. As an aside, as of 5.15.10-arch1-1, I believe arch didn't apply https://lore.kernel.org/ntfs3/20211127135105.27795-1-ales.astone@gmail.com/… , or some other solution. Which is why I think it is expected to have the 37777600 prefix issue with the ntfs3 linux module. -- u34

[arch-general] Difficulty installing UEFI

Folks: I have a 2017 Lenovo ThinkCentre M800 that I'm using to try to install Arch on a hard drive. I've formatted the drive (under Arch, using fdisk, with gpt partition, etc.), gone through the installation up to the point where I run grub-install with this command: grub-install --target=x86_64-efi --bootloader-id=grub_uefi --recheck The error(s): EFI variables are not supported on this system. grub-install: errors efibootmgr failed to register the boot entry: No such file or directory. This particular machine originally had an MBR disk in it, and I'm not sure if the BIOS supports UEFI. Should I give up on using this machine to install a UEFI Arch disk, or is there some workaround? Hello folks! on 12-16 I upgraded my system and installed a pipewire upgrade: [2021-12-16T15:44:27+0100] [ALPM] upgraded pipewire (1:0.3.40-1 -> 1:0.3.42-1) After a reboot, my USB microphone/speaker device (Jabra Speak 410) did not work anymore (see pipewire's log below). I use wireplumber as session manager but the problem persisted even after switching back to pipewire-media-session. Is this a problem I should report on the bugtracker, or can somebody help me figuring out how to solve this problem? [arch-general] RFC: declarative reference to installed kernel(s) and its modules and vmlinuz image

Currently it's quite complicated to make the reference from an installed kernel package(s) to it's files (the kernel image and modules), except by either invoking `pacman -Qlq linux | grep vmlinuz$` or some heuristics like what mkinitcpio does. So the proposal is that every kernel package should also include a symlink in /var/lib/kernel/<pkgname> to the path in /usr/lib/modules/<kver>/. for ex. currently that would be: /var/lib/kernel/linux -> /usr/lib/modules/5.15.7-arch1-1/ /var/lib/kernel/linux-lts -> /usr/lib/modules/5.10.85-1-lts/ Benefits of this approach would be for tools like mkinitcpio, or sbctl, which can declaratively refer to the kernel modules and the vmlinuz image, by just knowing the package name. -- damjan
