[arch-general] RAID Fails Due To Metadata

I noticed today I tried to create a new system using 'Software / Fake RAID' on Arch with the 'mdadm' utility. I have not done this for a year or so but realized that when I tried now on my new system, it failed and then I tried it again and read between the lines... mdadm: Note: this array has metadata at the start and may not be suitable as a boot device. If you plan to store '/boot' on this device, please ensure that your boot-loader understands md/v1.x metadata, or use --metadata=0.90 So then I created my array as follows: mdadm --create /dev/md0 --metadata=0.90 --level=1 --raid-devices=2 /dev/sda2 /dev/sdb2 Is there a way to get Grub to read / access the default metadata that the 'mdadm' utility uses?

[arch-general] How do AUR packages get new maintainers?

Guys, I've seen recent "Request to Ophan package XYZ" posts, and I've found some fairly large AUR packages that are orphaned (like RPM5). But, how do AUR packages get new maintainers? Does somebody monitor the orphans and then divvy them out among those with write privileges in AUR or does somebody have to say I'll take package X on? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. Did any one use Netbook and the CPU is Intel NM450 which embeded Graphics Card GMA 3150? I install the XF86-video-intel driver package by pacman, *$ pacman -Ss xf86-video* | grep intel* *extra/xf86-video-intel 2.12.0-1 (xorg-video-drivers) [installed]* but the glxgears just output like below: *$ glxgears * *635 frames in 5.0 seconds = 126.856 FPS* *663 frames in 5.0 seconds = 132.454 FPS* *516 frames in 5.0 seconds = 103.154 FPS* So some game like supertux2 can't play, and mplayer can't play by vo gl/gl2. I need some help... Since the other thread is huge and hard to follow, I am creating a new thread. I would like to use this thread to talk strictly about the Local Mirror wiki article. I have updated the wiki article to reflect the new pool directory. Currently there are some packages that are in pool/ while others are still in {$repo}/os/${arch}. Those in pool have symlinks to {$repo}/os/${arch} >From my understanding, eventually, all packages will be in pool/ http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Local_Mirror I am hoping someone who runs a Local Mirror can try this out. I do not have a need for a local mirror nor do I want to pull Gigs of data from a mirror to test this. However, I have done dry runs on the rsync command. @Devs: Maybe someone can update the Mirror Section in the NewMirrors wiki article http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/DeveloperWiki:NewMirrors#Mirror_size

[arch-general] 2.6.35.5-1 Fails To Boot: ERROR 24: Attempt to access block outside partition??

Uh Oh... Just updated and 2.6.35.5-1 fails to boot. It fails at the very start of boot. The screen output is: kernel /vmlinuz root=/dev/mapper/nvidia_baaccajap5 ro vga=0x31a [Linux-bzImage setup=0x3200, size=0x20ac50] Error 24: Attempt to access bloack outside partition Press any key to continue... This is on my test server and looks like the same/similar issue to bug FS#20499. I don't know what Error 24 is, but I suspect it has something to do with the dmraid setup and not being able to find the partitions. [arch-general] speeding up udev (from wiki)

Are a lot of you using (or not using) the suggestions from the "Speeding up Udev" article? I just tried it by replacing all occurrences of load-modules.sh in /etc/udev/rules.d/*.rules and /lib/udev/rules.d/*.rules with modprobe itself, and implemented blacklisting by adding install MODNAME /bin/false to modprobe.conf. This has sped up boot for me considerably. Has anyone had a bad experience with this method?

[arch-general] Any special reason for /etc/shadow.pacnew, or just normal pacman behavior.

Guys, I always diff any new .pacnew files when they are created during an update. Today I got /etc/shadow.pacnew which was a little surprising given that replacing shadow would be bad. The diff showed that the .pacnew entries were already in shadow (except for the root password of course) So this is just normal expected behavior by pacman right? shadow was there, pacman new it, so the new file was just installed as .pacnew.
