[arch-general] There's no need for acpid

Hi there, I discussed with someone else in an IRC channel that actually I have to use acpid for laptop-mode-tools if I want to have settings changed when I plug in AC. Well, actually there is no need of acpid for this. A simply shell script can do the same: #!/bin/bash while read event; do case "$event" in ac_adapter*) /usr/sbin/laptop_mode auto > /dev/null 2>&1 ;; esac done < /proc/acpi/event So I put this script unter /usr/sbin (or something else, whatever) and start it in laptop-mode-tools initscript. Works perfectly and so I don't need acpid just for this little thing. Anyway isn't acpid a bit much for such simple things? Guys, Just dropping a line to let you know that I haven't had a hang-on-boot with kernel26-2.6.35.4-2. That's great. This reminds me I did change screen resolution via an autorun script on E17 some time ago (when E17's resolution control showed only the default screen resolution). I can't find the script now, but simply running "xrandr -s 1024x768" from terminal inside od E17 changes the resolution correctly. Running just "xrandr" should give you the list of supported resolution, if the desired one is not listed you have to add a modeline. When you have the correct xrandr call(s) tested, you can automate it by creating say change-resolution.sh (should go in your PATH I think): #!/bin/sh xrandr -s ... which you then set up to autorun in control center -- aplications -- aplication on start (hope I translated it correctly from my localization). Hi everybody, unfortunately today a new root exploit appeared. Look at: http://sota.gen.nz/compat2/ After some tests I can say: It works on Archlinux and Ubuntu, but not on debian. The "bugfix" found on http://seclists.org/fulldisclosure/2010/Sep/273 does not work on Arch and Ubuntu. The only current fix is to patch the kernel. allspark and me built new versions of the current Arch-kernel and the LTS-kernel. Hello, Joe, I also noticed problems with the new release of E17 at my 32bit Arch. It seems, that there was some change upstream that broke compatibility with older themes/backgrounds/icons, so that they are listed in selections dialogs, but are not loaded. Rebuilding the e17-backgrounds, e17-icons and e17-themes packages from the AUR partially solves the problem, as more themes/backgrounds/icons can now be loaded, some still remains broken though. I've also seen the resolution being reset to default, but in my case the switch to desired one was flawless and logout succeeded (OSS ati drivers).
