Howdy, It's time for my fall house-cleaning, and I would like to request the removal of python2-sentry [1] and python2-httpbin-git [2]. As per the Python package guidelines [3], these should never have been named with the python2- prefix as they are application packages (not libraries). I have had the corrected versions of these uploaded for quite some time, and thanks in part to my forgetfulness, I believe that the significant number of months that have since passed should be ample time for anyone who may have had these installed to migrate to the new versions. Hi, I'm the author of Lutris ( http://lutris.net ) and I would like to ask for the removal of the lutris-bzr package in AUR ( https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/lutris-bzr/ ). Reasons for removal are: - The trunk version is by definition unstable, users who want to test it should explicity do a bzr checkout. - The dependencies are outdated. - There is a stable version in tar.gz format on the website which can be used instead. - I migrated from bzr to git, I won't commit on Launchpad for this project anymore. - I will probably delete the launchpad code, in order to avoid confusion. Hey all, I pinged the list a week ago about [1] noting that I had contacted the maintainer with no response, but that it had only been a week since I had contacted them. A second week has passed and I still have not received any word from the maintainer, nor has the package been updated. I would ask that it be orphaned so I can update it to the latest standards of VCS packaging. On a related note, it would appear that this maintainer has become rather inactive; I am unsure what the ruling is now for orphaning packages of maintainers who are no longer active, but whatever the case may be, the TUs may want to add this inactive maintainer to their list. AUR Package Link: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/thinlinc-server/ "ThinLinc Linux Remote Desktop Server is a product which enables applications and/or desktops to be deployed, managed, supported and executed from a central server. Users connect remotely using the ThinLinc client, and have their desktops and applications published as if they were being run locally." [aur-general] Dropping GNOME Flashback session

Hi all, I'll drop the following packages from the [community] repository as soon as GNOME 3.10 moved into the stable repositories: - gnome-applets - gnome-flashback-session - gnome-panel - gnome-settings-daemon-compat - sensors-applet The reason is the GNOME Flashback developers don't plan to keep the compatibility with latest GNOME releases, and I'm not able to make it compatible alone. Hey everyone, I send this maintainer an email about a week ago asking for them to orphan or update [1] as it is woefully out-of-date by packaging standards (it would not even build for me without some serious modifications). I know the standard practice is to wait two weeks, but on looking closer at the maintainer's history [2], they have not voted since the middle of 2012, and their last package update was made earlier in 2012 than their last vote. It would appear that the account is largely no longer active. If the TUs would like me to wait the rest of the standard two-week period before orphaning the package, that is fine, but I figured it might be worth while making y'all aware of the essentially inactive account. terminology-guake-git pulls from a branch of terminology that hasn't been updated since Oct of last year, when terminology was in it's infancy. I can't get a response from the author, either. This package has just become useless cruft, so I'm requesting it be removed: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/terminology-guake-git/ Long dead upstream and hasn't built for years: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/ei8k-module-svn/ Dead upstream and no development since the last release, making it a duplicate of the release package already in the AUR. Nothing worth merging, so just needs deleted: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/python2-ethumb-git/ Enlightenment used to have a DM called Entrance. It's long gone, but there was another one written named Elsa. After the original Entrance died, Elsa was renamed to Entrance. The entrance-themes package is for the old, non-existant Entrance, so it needs to be deleted: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/entrance-themes/ A lot of work was done on ffmpeg-compat in [community] a while ago, so now acestream can use that. Hi, I've submitted two new btrfs packages to the AUR: btrfs-progs-unstable-integration [0] and btrfs-progs-unstable-integration-git [1], and I'd like opinions on the state of things: a) should btrfs-progs-git [2] should be merged with btrfs-progs-unstable-integration-git, given that the latter is more true to it's name as a -git package, and the former is more of a lagging stable version of the "non-git" integration branch or b) should the non-git, btrfs-progs-unstable-integration package be dropped in favour of the more stable btrfs-progs-git package or c) should all three packages remain or d) should the unstables be merged into one PKGBUILD with the option to let the user choose between "stable" and "next" by setting a variable in it? or e) something else? Personally, I'm happy maintaining all three packages, but I'm aware that I have just tripled the number of btrfs-progs packages in the AUR, which may cause some confusion with some users, and may be considered littering the AUR. Some further information which may be useful: btrfs-progs-git = stable, but stale (no commits since July 5th) btrfs-progs-unstable-integration = unstable, but known to build, snapshot of the integration-next (git) branch btrfs-progs-unstable-integration-git = most unstable, actively committed to, may not always build Thanks. Hi, I just submitted two packages to AUR, these are my first packages so comments are welcome: coinor-csdp mosek (Note that mosek's "source" is dependent on the target architecture, so it only shows the 32 bit one on the AUR package website.) * CSDP is a C library for Semidefinite Programming, an optimization technique used in machine learning and other areas. It's released under the Common Public License 1.0. * Mosek is a linear, quadratic, conic, and mixed integer programming solver. (Mosek is commercial, but you can get trial or academic licenses for free to use it.) Both packages install their matlab toolboxes into /usr/share/doc/${pkgname}/matlab, for Matlab/Octave users. Both AUR uploads grab the sources from the upstream vendor. I'm maintaining these packages on GitHub, so if you want any changes made to them please submit a pull request or an issue on the GitHub repository located at: https://github.com/ido/packages-archlinux I'd love to see coinor-csdp reach the AUR community repository, since it's CPL licensed and a useful tool, but it's pretty niche software so I'm not holding my breath. :-) Cheers, Ido PS: I am unsubscribing from aur-general now so please CC my email address on replies meant for me.

[aur-general] pandoc moved back to the AUR for the time being

I've moved pandoc back to the AUR because the latest version picked up too many new dependencies. It was convenient to have it in [community], but it's much saner to maintain these with the automation used by the arch-haskell project. I only use it for Rust's documentation generator, and don't want to be frequently rebuilding 30+ libraries for a language I don't use. Our packaging standards don't make much sense for Haskell because there are little gains from dynamic linking. There's not nearly enough sharing of code for it to come close to being efficient, and no stable ABI either.

I upgraded to systemd 207 today, and upon reboot received several messages that say, "failed to open /dev/btrfs-control skipping device registration: No such file or directory." The btrfs problem faq suggests that running "mknod /dev/btrfs-control c 10 234" should fix me up. However, when I run this it says that it already exists. The only significant changes that I made were to upgrade systemd, and add the systemd hook to mkinicpio.conf. I tried booting from external media, and removing the systemd hook, but after re-running mkinitcpio I still get the same result. Does anyone have any suggestions for getting past this? I will happily provide more information if you can tell me what would be helpful. Thanks, =-Jameson

Hi, curlpaste [1] has been replaced [2] by uppity [3]. The usage is very much the same. I propose moving uppity-git to [community] as uppity, and removing curlpaste (not uploading it to the AUR). Am I right in thinking that uppity "replaces", but does not "conflict" with curlpaste as there are no file conflicts? I believe I need three other TUs to agree that uppity can go into [community] as it only has two votes. If this does not happen in the next two weeks, I will continue to remove curlpaste from [community], but leave uppity-git in the AUR. Replaces should never be in aur packages. It is only used by Pacman when searching the repository. There is nothing that searches replaces in the aur. Hello, I have just become the maintainer of my first package in AUR,'linux-next'. It's name lacks -git prefix, though it is using git to fetch source code. I figure out that I have these courses of action: 1)Ask for the deletion of 'linux-next' package in favor of 'linux-next-git'; 2)Create a separate package 'linux-next-git' which uses git by fetching sources like described in Wiki page "VCS PKGBUILD Guidelines", but keep 'linux-next' and use prepare() mechanism, which will utilize 'git clone --depth=1' (less to download, useful for one-time building); 3) Don't create any new packages and just update 'linux-next' PKGBUILD like in 1). This package is useful when one wants to write C/C++ extensions to gawk. There's a bunch of header files available only in the source (while there is one gawkapi.h in the official gawk package, it is not sufficient for developers who want to build their own extensions). http://www.gnu.org/software/gawk/manual/html_node/Internal-File-Ops.html It works exactly the same way as linux-headers and https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/ruby-source/ (Correct me if I'm wrong). They exist mainly not for general users, but for developers who want to build their own modules from scratch. Even though it is relatively unpopular to build extensions in gawk, you can't assume the source package is "useless" in any case. Just let you know what this is intended for. [aur-general] How to deal with tarballs from GitHub

Hi all, When the source tarball is from a GitHub repository, part of the commit SHA1 forms the first level of the extracted directory tree. This leads to a non-deterministic tree in $srcdir At the moment I deal with this by using noextract() and manually extracting the tarball within build() using --strip-components=1 which you can see in [1]. (Arguably it should perhaps happen in prepare() but that's a separate discussion). Does anyone have any better ways to deal with these tarballs? Hello, (I've subscribed straight after reading the FAQ, so apologies for my unfamiliarity with the community.) I've been using the centerim5-git package for a while now. ( https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/centerim5-git/ ). Every time the package updates (for example, every time I run `yaourt --sucre`), I get asked to authorize the ssh key for centerim's git server. This causes the update procedure to wait for that authorisation, which is annoying if you run a full upgrade overnight. I finally got fed up and delved into the PKGBUILD. It seems the main problem was not splitting off the package() function. I've now made it work, as a reasonably standard git-based PKGBUILD based on the hundreds of other ones out there. I commented on the package itself a few days ago, and emailed the package maintainer. The FAQ says to wait a couple of weeks, but it seems unlikely he'll turn up as the email address is bouncing. (Which means I assume he's not getting notifications of comments either.) I'd be willing to take over maintaining this package if and when it's decided that it has been abandoned. tldr; Will move OSSv4 to the AUR in one week if no one can fix it or wants to maintain it. I had started maintaining OSS because I had one computer that absolutely required it. That computer has since completely broken. Also since then, our OSS package started to bit-rot around the 3.10 kernel release. The 3.10 patches floating around don't seem to help. The pre-compiled oss-nonfree package in the AUR does work. I'm guessing there is some compile flag that I am missing. It seems odd that a generic binary works for us when the package produced by our toolchain does not. I am at a loss as to how to make OSS work. I'd like to see it stay in the repositories because options and choices are good. But only if they actually function. -Kyle http://kmkeen.com

Just received a notice from AUR that Barthalion delete qtquickcontrols-git. The package is needed by the hawaii packages and it was meant to complete the qt from git packages series maintained by Andrea Scarpino. The real problem here is that we have two sets of packages for Qt 5 from git (qt5-*-git and qt*-git), I'd keep the qt*-git made by Andrea Scarpino and the few packages (such as qtquickcontrols-git) I made myself. First of all, excuse me if this is not the appropriate place for this issue, didn't know where it could fit better. Now, the issue. As said in the title, vim-youcompleteme-git [ 0 ] does not build when android-studio [ 1 ] is installed throwing this error: Linking CXX shared library /dev/shm/vim-youcompleteme-git/src/YouCompleteMe/python/ycm_core.so /opt/android-sdk/build-tools/18.0.1/libclang.so: could not read symbols: File in wrong format collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status make[3]: *** [/dev/shm/vim-youcompleteme-git/src/YouCompleteMe/python/ycm_core.so] Error 1 make[2]: *** [ycm/CMakeFiles/ycm_core.dir/all] Error 2 make[1]: *** [ycm/CMakeFiles/ycm_core.dir/rule] Error 2 make: *** [ycm_core] Error 2 ==> ERROR: A failure occurred in build(). Aborting... This happens because android-studio adds /opt/android-sdk to the PATH. Building in a clean chroot or without /opt/android-sdk added to the PATH or android-studio uninstalled is ok. This, however, does not seem the ideal situation. I don't know if other packages are affected by this as well because I can't think of another package that links against libclang.so at the moment, but, in this case, what could be done to solve it rather than using workarounds as mentioned? More than 65% of all TUs voted "yes" and there are zero "no" votes so far :) The first patch is a follow-up to Xyne's proposal and is something he simply forgot when writing the patch. The second patch adds some information on how to submit patches for TU bylaws amendments. It answers following questions and solves following issues: * Where is the official bylaws Git repository? * Proposals with bad formatting that are hard to comment on. * How to submit formatting changes and actual changes at once without creating messy patches. Hi, I've wrote a couple of basic PKGBUILD files which simply pull from github and compile but this time I need something a bit more. Basically I need to pull in some dependencies from other repositories (easy) and then invoke a command via one of the Common Lisp implementations which may be available on the system. I'm not sure how to set up the dependencies for that. Any ideas? Aaron

Please merge python-shiboken into shiboken. The shiboken package is older and shiboken is an application, not a library, so it as the proper naming scheme. Both packages provide the same software, and there are no particular differences in build flags. -- Hugo Osvaldo Barrera
