Hi, I've adopted this package https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=18644 (firefox32) some time ago and I think it should be renamed to bin32-firefox. Can you do this for me? Or should I just change the name in PKGBUILD and upload it? Also the i18n for this package ( https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=18647 ) should be renamed too, to bin32-firefox-i18n Once renamed, how do I notify the people using the old package versions they should switch to the new ones? Hi All, I'm uploading a pkg for an mpris2 plugin for Kupfer. I don't want to clone the whole git repo (seems wasteful and I think half the code there is dead) and the only part that I'm interested in is the mpris2 folder. The only way I've found of checking out part of a repo in is to use the sparse checkout trick. The question I have is whether or not it's OK to use this in a PKGBUILD or not, what say ye wise men?! Hi all, the last Qt major release is in [testing]. For the upstream changes see the Qt ChangeLog[1]. About the Arch Linux packaging, the libqtwebkit library isn't shipped with the qt package anymore, but with the new qtwebkit package. We rebuilt our packages in [extra] and [community] to add this new dependence. If you find a package which links to libQtWebKit.so.4, but doesn't depend on qtwebkit, please report us the bug using bugs.archlinux.org. Google only provide one downloadable version of google-musicmanager,sometimes is a release version and sometimes is a beta verion,there is no difference between stable version PKGBUILD ond beta version PKGBUILD like other package do,so there is no need to create a beta version PKGBUILD alone.

Hi there, I've recently taken over some of the ophaned pure-* packages, including pure-svn. I found that in fact the Pure project migrated from subversion to mercurial some time ago (see http://groups.google.com/group/pure-lang/browse_thread/thread/43cbd5c494c0f…) so I have created a pure-hg package to replace this. The pure-svn package doesn't compile and is no longer needed now, so I think it should be removed. Cheers, Alastair

Recently,I was attracted by the songbird and nightingage media player based on Mozilla Tech.And I noticed these to nightly build PKGBUILD in AUR whose pkgver is part of a shell command string,and I want to do something to make that pkgver recognised by the AUR interface. This is something I use quite a bit, I'd like to update and maintain it.

[aur-general] ATi driver DKMS package - what to include

Hi guys, I am trying to resuscitate the dkms-fglrx package [1]. I am wondering what I should leave in (the ATi Linux installer comes with a lot of binary stuff). I checked the catalyst PKGBUILD in the AUR, while it copies a lot of libraries, it does not seem to copy e.g. stuff like AMD's XvBA libraries and the fgl_glxgears fglrxinfo binaries (which I think can be handy to be distributed with the driver). [aur-general] Cross-compilers naming scheme

If someone hasn't spot it yet, we have mess with naming of cross-compilers in [community]. Currently there are 3 schemes: 1) $appname-$platform (gcc-avr and binutils-avr) The only problem I see is mingw32 (and related packages). While {gcc,binutils}-mingw32 looks fine, I don't know what to do with mingw32-pthreads, mingw32-runtime and mingw32-w32api. 2) $platform-$appname (mingw32 packages) My favorite. Seems to be most readable (IMHO) and can be easily applied to every cross-compiler. 3) cross-$platform-$appname Probably as good as second option, but cross prefix is annoying me. I've already discussed it with Alexander Rødseth, but Arch isn't a project for a few people. What do you think? Hi everybody, I've got a problem with AUR login. I can't remember my username and as far as I can see there's only the "Forgotten password" form. Is there any way to know my old username? Season's greetings, As December the 13th is approaching, I would like to extend a hand, to invite you all to a Christmas cleaning of our packages. As you may, or may not know, December the 13th is the longest night of the year, at least it were said to be so, before the Gregorian calender was introduced. If everything is not ready before Christmas, a group of restless dead souls will come at night and vandalize your property. [1] [2] Also, the 13th of December is the date for several highly memorable events, which contributes to making it an appropriate date for a deadline for adopting orphans in [community] (before moving them to unsupported the 14th): * Pope Celestine V resigned the papacy, 13th of December 1294, after only five months. He was the third pope in history to resign voluntarily. Benedict IX resigned in May 1040, but soon regretted it, and returned to papacy. The reason for Pope Celestine V to resign was to hope to return to his previous life as an ascetic hermit. [3] * Malta became a republic within the Commonwealth of Nations, the 13th of December 1974. This occasion is marked every year as Republic Day (Maltese: Jum ir-Repubblika). [4] * Erik XIV, king of Sweden and ruler of Estonia was born, the 13th of December 1533. Unfortunately, he got mentally ill at the end of eight year of rule and was murdered, probably with arsenic. [5] * Robert Plot, the author of "Natural History of Staffordshire", was born the 13th of December 1960. He was the first man to describe the Abbots Bromley Horn Dance, an English folk dance involving reindeer antlers and a hobby horse. The event takes place each year in Abbots Bromley, a small village in Staffordshire, England. Maintaining [community] and unsupported are part of our mission. [10] For maintainers everywhere, giving extra care and attention to packages that are merely flagged is also looked upon with good favor, of course. That also goes for deleting or orphaning AUR packages that hasn't been working for a while (say, for the last 6 months). I hope you're all with me on this, and that we can stand together, as one, to move all orphans to unsupported and shed some dead weight from AUR. I am requesting that AUR package r8169 ( https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=44317 ) be removed. The r8169 package seems to have been created because of a bug in the 2.6.36 kernel which has already been fixed, apparently. Note that the r8169 kernel module is already in the kernel (and has been for a while). The submitter of the package (darkmug) stated the following in the comments: "Kernel version has a bug on current arch version. The problem is described on https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=761029 This package has a patch that solves it. As soon as arch's version solves it, I pretend to remove from aur." Hi there again. In an attempt to bring the yeganesh package into the present day, I found that the newest version requires Haskell's "unix" package. I built it with cabal2arch and tried to upload the result to the AUR, but it tells me that "haskell-unix is on the package blacklist." Despite what it indicates, it is not available in the repos, AFAICT. I know that Haskell and the AUR have an uneasy relationship, but I'm hoping that y'all will un-blacklist this as it is a build dependency of a moderately popular tiling WM launcher. Thanks, David J. Hey all, I'm the maintainer of google-talkplugin. For one month there has been a new PKGBUILD called google-talkplugin-amd64 which is actually doing the exact same thing as the google-talkplugin PKGBUILD. It downloads the deb package and extracts it. But because it's called "amd64" people think that the other one is only for 32 bit systems. In the very first days of the package, Ionut sent a mail to me and the maintainer of a similar package, writing that the AUR should not have two identical packages. I think this still applies. I tried to contact the maintainer of the new package but he doesn't seem to understand that the packages are identical. He says that many of the 32 bit libraries in google-talkplugin are not needed (see the comments at https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=53971) I added them because they are either needed according to the original deb file or according to other users that said the plugin wouldn't work without them. The other maintainer can't tell me which of the libraries he thinks are unnecessary so I can't remove them. Cheers, Dominik

[aur-general] 2 recommendations needed for installing Arch Linux

Hi :) I'm new to the list. Sorry that my mail is formatted in HTML. When I tied to restore the distro I used before from a backup for the billionth time, I made a mistake and accidentally deleted originals and backups from ext4 partitions. Currently I'm even unable to boot any from my other Linux installs, so I'm using a Parted Magic live CD, resp. the web mailing thingy from my provider. I'll switch to Arch Linux because for my needs, audio productions, it could be easier to keep it stable than it is for other distros. I've got two questions. 1. What is a safe FS, that can be recovered? Ext4 seemingly isn't such a FS. The FS also should be usable for audio productions. Security regarding to multiple user usage, web access, server usage etc. are unimportant for a DAW. 2. For my main Linux I always prefer to use 64-bit architecture, but 32-bit architecture compatibility is needed. Is there something I should take care about when installing Arch Linux? Cheers! Ralf

I started using arch linux 1 month ago and today i created a PKGBUILD of a very useful program: megastreamd, but i can't submit it on AUR beacause i receive this error: Package URL is missing a protocol (ie. http:// ,ftp://). Every packager, please do the following: 1) Reply to this email to thomas(a)master-key.archlinux.org and fully quote this email. Include your gerolde/sigurd username in the email. Sign your reply using your GPG key. 2) Upload your public key (gpg --armor --export $KEYID) to your home directory on gerolde/sigurd under the name $HOME/arch-linux-packager-key. 3) Name at least one package in the repositories already signed with your key. Sadly, this process will only prove that you are in posession of the ssh key to upload packages into the repositories. I will contact you personally afterwards if I need further identification. Please note: there are be 5 master key holders (Allan, Dan, Pierre, Ionut, me), and you need at least 3 signatures on your key so your packages will be trusted by pacman. Hi, I thought about applying as a TU for some time now, I think the selection of packages provided by Arch is already great but there is always space for additional quality software in community and I hope to help with that. Here's a little background about myself: I'm a 27yr old italian guy, working as a embedded developer in a broadband company. I started to use linux with Corel Linux, then I passed to Mandrake, but I hate the RPM packaging system so I switched to Debian, mainly for its stability. In 2006 I became a Gentoo Developer [1] (Member of net-im, ppc and voip herds), Gentoo/Alt lead, Gentoo/BSD and Gentoo/FreeBSD deputy lead for 2 years. I'm using ArchLinux since 2009 and I think it's the better distribution out there. Like I said, I am a developer at heart and I released some opensource applications [2] and I helper with several project, as you can see in my ohloh profile [3]. I am a confident developer who loves the C language, but I also use SH scripting (both POSIX and Bash) and other languages. I selected an initial list of AUR PKGBUILDs I plan to move to community: - netselect - httrack - httperf You can see on the AUR [4] that I maintain already a pretty long list of PKGBUILDs including the popular sshpass and ragel. That said, having a "delete my account" option in the AUR itself would be an incredibly nice feature, unless you are afraid your users might run off. (Forgive me if this message arrives twice) I am the maintainer of perl-test-shared-fork and request its removal. This Perl module however is called Test::SharedFork, so the name is wrong. I added this package as a dependency for perl-test-tcp, which now depends on the correctly named module, so the removal should not break anything. The votes could be merged with perl-test-sharedfork. Hi, I was told it was best practice to use "install" rather than "mkdir" and "cp" in a PKGBUILD, but how can you copy a directory and its contents (recursively) using "install"? If you cannot, with a folder with lots of files, is it best practice to list every file to copy with "install", or use one command to "cp" the whole folder? Thanks, Jonathan

Hey, So the story is that, since '458italia' (the maintainer of 'google-earth' [1]) has been unresponsive for over a month another maintainer called 'kiodo1981' decided to almost 3 weeks ago to create an updated Google Earth package of his own, 'google-earth-deb' [2]. The problem is that this is not the right way to do things and the PKGBUILD has some serious errors. I talked with kiodo1981 and my current stance is that I'd like to take over 'google-earth' (to begin with). And after I've combined the two PKGBUILDs (meaning: replaced the source URL with the other package's url) and maintained it for a while, I'd be willing to let kiodo1981 take over. I just want to make sure that he's ready for it (and that I get the most voted packages in the AUR). Hi! All sources hosted at tango.freedesktop.org became inaccessible [1] a couple of days ago, probably due to some software upgrade on freedesktop.org. I contacted upstream yesterday and was told that tango-icon-theme, tango-icon-theme-extras and icon-naming-utils are dead and that we shouldn't rely on upstream sources being available (they even mentioned they probably won't care about the 404). It has been suggested to use gnome-icon-theme and gnome-icon-theme-extras instead. Given that xfce4-settings seems to be the only package depending on tango-icon-theme, I'd suggest to: * Remove the "tango-icon-theme" dependency from xfce4-settings (this shouldn't break anything, does it?) * Move both tango-icon-theme and tango-icon-theme-extras to [unsupported]. * Think about what to do with icon-naming-utils. We seem to need those for gnome-icon-theme and gnome-icon-theme-symbolic, so putting the source tarball on our source mirror might be the best thing to do (unless there's a proper alternative, of course). Hello, I'm applying to be a TU. My sponsor is Dave Reisner. As you may remember, I already applied 10 months ago [1]. Since that time, my motivation is still the same and i had time to be more involved in the community, participating in development of initscripts[2], mkinitcpio[3], pacman[4]. You can find my working tree on github [7]. I currently maintaining 40 packages in AUR, with a total of 5708 votes [8]. 12 of them have been created by me. You can find pre-version of most PKGBUILD i maintain in my svn [6]. For my own needs i setup binary repositories [5] with packages i use on my computers. I'm currently working on an AUR build bot which i will use to automatically build some packages from AUR (which i trust) and push it inside a dedicated repository. It will be released in opensource. After that, i will propose an implementation of a better handling of vcs packages in makepkg. If you let me join the TU team, i would add some of "my" AUR packages to community (list not exhaustive): - cpupower - perf - ebtables - ferm - nload - vconfig - ipset - sfk - ext4magic - kerneltop - linux-kvm (if linus merge it in 3.2) I would also move package i use every days to community like (list not exhaustive): - arptables - atftp - cfv - conntrack-tools - lantencytop - sshpass - picocom - lsscsi - libmnl (needed by ipset) - rxvt Unfortunatly i doesn't use orphan packages [9] so i don't think adopt orphans. I'm the current maintainer of ArchHaskell and within the small team we've reached the decision to drop support for the huge set of package owned by the user arch-haskell on AUR. Currently we maintain 300+ binary packages, and we'd like to keep them on AUR. All others should be orphaned (or removed). [aur-general] AUR cleanup

I see that there are more than 6700 orphan packages. Of those, more than 2400 are also flagged out of date (some packages have not been updated since 2007). Many packages are only waiting for a new maintainer but I think that many are only waiting to be scrapped as they're already been replaced by some other package in the AUR or in the community repository (or just become obsolete). I'm wondering if the time has come to look into them to find out what worth to keep and what have to be removed and thus do some cleanup. If can be useful, I can start working on it.

I mistakenly posted this to AUR-Dev earlier and was pointed here. Two quick things: 1. I have two old packages I'd like to get removed from the AUR: gwclient32 & gwclient64. They were my first attempt at doing stuff in the AUR and I later made a single dual architecture PKGBUILD, which I'm still maintaining (gwclient). 2. I'd like to become the maintainer for citrix-client, and remove bin32-citrix-client entirely. I needed this for work and made a single PKDBUILD for both architectures, which I've attached here as a tarball (Though I haven't tested the 32 bit version, in fairness). I emailed the current maintainer approx two weeks ago (It hasn't been updated in about a year) about picking up the package and that failed to ellicit a response. Cheers, -- ~Jason
