Hi all. After recent updates to arch I started having problems with some programs that make use of the gnome-keyring-daemon. Hi. By default, six ttys are defined but I would have more ; in distros with sysv there was an /etc/inttab file defining consoles and it was simple to define more. I didn't find info in the wiki ; I pretty sure my method to search is bad but... Regards. -- Philippe

[arch-general] Users in mariadb

Hello dear list. I had a look to the mysql.user table and found four users at localhost ; two of them seem odd to me : 1 mariadb.sys with no password 2 mysql with the password 'invalid'. I guess I can delete user 'mysql'@'localhost' but what about 'mariadb.sys'@'localhost' ? In the slackware box, those users don't exist. Thanks for advise. Regards. -- Philippe

Hi list. I'm new with archlinux and especially systemd. I'm using linux since around twenty years, so i'm not realy newbie but... I have many questions but I'll ask one by one. I read wiki about systemctl and I'm not sure to have understood everything :-( For instance, to have a daemon at boottime, I have tried : systemctl enable --now ... It seems to be OK with ntp, fcron and NetworkManager. But with mariadb I obtain a failure. Job for mariadb.service failed because the control process exited with error code. [arch-general] DST-related log messages?

We switched from Daylight Savings back to Standard time in my locale last night. (EDT -> EST) My system did seem to update, as it has the correct time. However, I was looking through the logs to see if it wrote any messages regarding the time changing, but didn't see any. I also don't see any record of where the time got rolled back. (i.e., 03.00 -> 02.00) Anyone know what (if anything) gets written to the logs that would show this change? Thanks, DR

I'm currently using LXQt + KWin. LXQt is not landing in Wayland any time soon. There's no hurry, but I would like to know about other non plasma Qt DEs working on Wayland. I'm aware on Liri, however I don't know how light it is compared to LXQt + K Win, or Plasma itself, and also how usable/stable it is. One concern is performance, responsiveness, and resources usage, given it's not exactly based on Qt, but rather QML instead. I read about another Qt DE working on Wayland, paperDE, however it uses Wayfire instead of KWin, and I'd prefer using KWin and compositor, but there's currently no DE offering such combination, except by Plasma, or so it seems... Again, I'd like to know how usable/stable it is, how light it is, and how does it compare to LXQt (Xorg it'll be, given its lack of Wayland support), and how it compares in terms of performance, responsiveness and resources. Liri, by being the 1st Qt DE, has the most amount of time dealing with Wayland, it should be quiet usable/stable, compared to the newcomers, but that might only be a bad supposition. Is there any other DE I might be missing, hopefully using KWin and oriented toward being as light as it could be? BTW, just in case that counts, I only planning to be able to use pipewire for screen/desktop sharing, and not for audio at all, since I prefer plain alsa, so I don't want a strict requirement for pipewire audio support.
