Wiki - dark-mode not working in Firefox and the 2022 templates, switching to 2010 template it is fine

All, Just a note on the wiki. Attempting to change to dark-mode failed with the new 2022 templates. Going to my preference and changing the Appearance to use to prior (old) 2010 templates, then dark-mode immediately started working fine. Not sure what else to check. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

Dependencies of Kate and Sonnet5

Kate (the editor) has the option to spellcheck, and uses one of the Sonnet backend for that. It is not mentioned in the deps, not even in optdeps. Then, Sonnet itself also misses a lot of the possible backends, namely nuspell and enchant, two of the most advanced. Kate itself does also miss threadweaver, but this is not used yet by any other KDE application, so I guess we just dont use that yet. php-legacy--8.1.23-2 unable to load apcu.so

Hi, after upgrading php-legacy, php-legacy-fpm, php-legacy-gd, php-legacy-pgsql and php-legacy-sqlite (8.1.23-1 -> 8.1.23-2) I get the following error in the log file: php-fpm-legacy[24175]: [14-Oct-2023 17:15:49] NOTICE: PHP message: PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library 'apcu.so' (tried: /usr/lib/php-legacy/modules/apcu.so (/usr/lib/php-legacy/modules/apcu.so: undefined symbol: php_strlcpy), /usr/lib/php-legacy/modules/apcu.so.so (/usr/lib/php-legacy/modules/apcu.so.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory)) in Unknown on line 0 Downgrading to 8.1.23-1 helped getting my server back online. Is there an upgrade to php-legacy-apcu (currently 5.1.22-6) in the pipeline that has not yet landed on the mirror I use? Does this package need to be rebuilt? Thanks, Uwe

Hi Leonidas, Replying here as my reply to arch-dev-public was rejected. I currently have jre packages installed. When I build a package such as tuxguitar, that contains a make dependency for the jdk packages, makepkg installs the jdk packages and then removes them following the build, having been asked to do so. Going forward, I expect makepkg will install the jdk packages and uninstall the conflicting jre packages. Following the build when makepkg uninstalls the build packages, is makepkg clever enough to reinstall the jre packages, or should I just keep the jdk packages installed instead? Regards, Richard

ttf-font

Hi! When installing many packages, we are offered 8 font options, among which there is no ttf-ubuntu-font-family. This font is the best font for browsers in my opinion. Add the option to choose ttf-ubuntu-font-family too. Please... -- With respect and best regards, Mailsh.

Remove a package together with a user and a group

Greetings! Users and groups created when installing some packages (avahi, usbmuxd) are not deleted along with its removal. Is it related to https://archlinux.org/todo/pacman-hooks-systemd-sysuserstmpfiles/ and requires some changes? Or should I always delete them manually? -- With respect and best regards, Mailsh.

Installation image (services)

Hello... To improve the user experience, I suggest making the following changes to the installation image of the system. 1. Disable 'systemd-timesyncd.service' (the system time may not be set correctly on different machines; booting the main system after booting Arch Linux installation media and mounting hard disk may result in an error 'superblock last mount time is in the future'). 2. solving file conflicts

Hi fellow-archers, I have two packages, A and B, which both provide the same file X. Is there a way to tell pacman to ignore file X in package B, so it is installed (and updated) solely with A? My current ideas are: * repackage B (the official package), so it does not include X anymore -> tedious, feels unnecessary * change packaging of A (unofficial package), so X is now called Y -> this will break a lot of configs, because X is hooked up in many places -> I'd like to avoid this option * tell pacman to ignore X in package B (something like NoExtract - but except, that it is package specific and that it works as I need it ;-p) regards, Erich

A possible patch to apply to gnome-shell-extensions in extra-testing?

Hello. I'm currently using Gnome 45 grabbed from extra-testing repository and the only bug I'm facing is that removable-drive-menu icon is not loaded. This bug is known and fixed in git. Could the patch - https://gitlab.gnome.org/fmuellner/gnome-shell-extensions/-/commit/092b2688… - be added to gnome-shell-extensions in extra-testing until a new release of this software is available? Issues with Electron Apps

When I start electron apps I run into an error with a shared library from dav1d. Does anyone else run into this issue? ❯ electron /usr/lib/electron25/electron: error while loading shared libraries: libdav1d.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory I get the error when starting an electron app itself (e.g. obsidian) or the electron command. Electron seems to link to an old version of the library: ❯ pacman -F libdav1d.so.6 ❯ pacman -F libdav1d.so.7 extra/dav1d 1.3.0-1 [installed] usr/lib/libdav1d.so.7 I tried reinstalling obsidian, electron(25), and dav1d. So my suspicion is that electron was not rebuilt for the new dav1d version. Possibly causing a problem for all election versions. Is there another package I should try reinstalling? Christian
